And you gotta see it - it really is unforgettable. Perhaps the best looking Tudor-bungalow in Coronado. The raised garden bed and English-style gravel pathway has its own fountain. The driveway post lights are a sight to see at night; as well as the crystal chandeliers inside the house. I think the best thing though is how it is helping to revitalize this area. I see mothers and their children walking past in the evenings and enjoying the lighted fountain and flowers in the front yard. I have had neighbors from as far as Cambridge stop by and say what an improvement for the community. That's really what this project has been about - making a contribution to the city. The Art Exhibition is an extension of that - offering cultural diversity and art to the citizens. Afterall, the house was built in 1925, and has seen everything grow around it. So it was time that it got its own makeover so it can look beautiful for another 80 years. Come over on Friday and I'll show you what we did with the driveway; instead of doing concrete, we used paver stone to create a rectangular perimeter and used GravelPave2 and pea gravel inside the rectangle. It's more environmentally friendly, has low heat radiation, and even filters pollutants that could contaminate groundwater. Well, you'll just have to come see the house on Friday along with the artwork. The combination is going to be just fantastic! I attached a small copy of the opening reception postcard. Aaron ?? Vegetable oils and animal fats are triglycerides, containing glycerin. To turn vegetable oil into biodiesel fuel you must first eliminate the glycerin. When fat or oil is separated from glycerin it is considered to be 'esterfied'. During both homemade and professional biodiesel production, alcohol (either methanol or ethanol) is added to displace the glycerin so that it becomes a waste product. The chemical reaction for this process is triggered by the addition of lye. Read more on how to Make Your Own Biodiesel When you purchase Methanol you might notice that it is also marketed under a lot of different names. Among them are alcohol, wood alcohol, wood naphtha, wood spirits, methyl hydrate (or 'stove fuel'), carbinol, colonial spirits, Columbian spirits, Manhattan spirits, methylol, methyl hydroxide, hydroxymethane, monohydroxymethane and pyroxylic spirit. The bottom line is that all of these nicknames and brands describe one product - methanol. Be careful when buying something called methylcarbinol as this name can be used to describe both methanol and ethanol. Check the ingredients to make sure that it is methanol you are buying and not ethanol. Ethanol is just simply harder to work with when it comes to creating homemade biodiesel. Another mistake would also be to substitute Methylated spirits (denatured alcohol) or isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) as neither succeeds in creating biodiesel fuel. You can also buy large amounts of methanol from bulk liquid fuels distributors who supply to biodiesel production. Read more on how to Make Your Own Biodiesel It is lye that changes the glycerin into biodiesel fuel (or the fat to soap in the soap making process. The lye catalyst can be either sodium hydroxide (caustic soda, NaOH) or potassium hydroxide (KOH). Sodium hydroxide is often easier to obtain and it's cheaper to use. If you use potassium hydroxide, the process is the same, but you need to use 1.4 times as much. You can get both NaOH and KOH from craft stores, soap makers' suppliers and from chemical suppliers. Other chemicals that are necessary for biodiesel production, such as isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) for titration, are available from drug stores and chemical suppliers. Of all of the chemicals used in biodiesel production, the lye is the most dangerous. Don't get it on your skin or in your eyes, don't breathe any fumes, keep lye away from food, and keep it away from children and pets. Lye also reacts with aluminum, tin and zinc so don't use any of these metals as a vessel or container for holding your biodiesel. By the end of the biodiesel production process the glycerin will be sitting at the bottom of a container in two floating layers. The bottom glycerin layer will clearly separated from the biodiesel. The biodiesel at the top can then be removed or siphoned off and used neat in a diesel car or diesel engineer blended with petroleum-based diesel fuel. After over 20 years of voting in Arizona, I guess I've earned the right to throw in my 2 cents. Here's my rule of thumb when voting on Arizona propositions. If it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck and looks like a duck, then it is proabably a duck. If it walks like a chicken, crows like a rooster, and looks like a turkey, It's probably some group of people somewhere trying to trick the Arizona voter into something they really don't want. Short title >> >> This act may be cited as the "Private Property Rights Protection Act". >> >> Sec. 2. Findings and declarations >> >> A. The people of Arizona find and declare: >> >> 1. Article 2, section 17 of our State Constitution declares in no >> uncertain terms that private property shall >> >> not be taken for private use. >> >> 2. Our Constitution further provides that no person shall be deprived of >> property without due process of >> >> law. >> >> 3. Finally, our Constitution does not permit property to be taken or >> damaged without just compensation >> >> having first been made. >> >> 4. Notwithstanding these clear constitutional rights, the state and >> municipal governments of Arizona >> >> consistently encroach on the rights of private citizens to own and use >> their property, requiring the people of this >> >> State to seek redress in our state and federal courts which have not >> always adequately protected private property >> >> rights as demanded by the State and Federal Constitutions. For example: >> >> (a) A recent United States Supreme Court ruling, Kelo v. City of New >> London, allowed a city to exercise >> >> its power of eminent domain to take a citizen's home for the purpose of >> transferring control of the land to a private >> >> commercial developer. >> >> (b) The City of Mesa used eminent domain to acquire and bulldoze homes >> for a redevelopment project that >> >> included a hotel and water park. After the developer's financing fell >> through the project was abandoned and the >> >> property left vacant. >> >> (c) The City of Mesa filed condemnation actions against Randy Bailey, to >> take his family-owned brake >> >> shop, and Patrick Dennis, to take his auto-body shop, so that local >> business owners could relocate and expand a >> >> hardware store and an appliance store. >> >> (d) The City of Tempe instituted an eminent domain action to condemn the >> home of Kenneth and Mary >> >> Ann Pillow in order to transfer their property to a private developer who >> planned to build upscale townhomes. >> >> (e) The City of Chandler filed a condemnation action against a fast food >> restaurant in order to replace the >> >> fast-food restaurant with upscale dining and retail uses. >> >> (f) In the wake of the Kelo ruling, the City of Tempe recently sought to >> condemn property in an industrial >> >> park in order to make way for an enormous retail shopping mall. >> >> (g) The City of Tempe told the owners of an Apache Boulevard bowling >> alley that the City intended to >> >> condemn their property and specifically instructed them not to make >> further improvements to the land. Heeding >> >> Tempe's advice, the owners made no further improvements and ultimately >> lost bowling league contracts and went >> >> out of business. The Arizona Court of Appeals refused the owners' request >> for just compensation. >> >> (h) Courts have also allowed state and local governments to impose >> significant prohibitions and restrictions >> >> on the use of private property without compensating the owner for the >> economic loss of value to that property. >> >> 5. For home owners in designated slum or blighted areas, the compensation >> received when a primary >> >> residence is seized is not truly just as required by our state >> constitution. >> >> 6. Furthermore, even when property is taken for a valid public use, the >> judicial processes available to >> >> property owners to obtain just compensation are burdensome, costly and >> unfair. >> >> B. Having made the above findings, the people of Arizona declare that all >> property rights are fundamental >> >> rights and that all people have inalienable rights including the right to >> acquire, possess, control and protect property. >> >> Therefore the citizens of the State of Arizona hereby adopt the Private >> Property Rights Protection Act to ensure that >> >> Arizona citizens do not lose their home or property or lose the value of >> their home or property without just >> >> compensation. Use them also to monitor rodent activity to determine areas of heavy and mild infestation. Made of heavy-duty, injection-molded plastic, these rodent bait stations withstand the toughest baiting situations indoors and out. It's large enough to accommodate six rats and holds up to one pound of dry rodent bait and one pint of liquid rodent bait. Horizontal and vertical bait securing rods keep Blox bait securely in the station. Protecta Bait Station is ideal for perimeter baiting and can be attached to a permanent structure or staked to the ground for added security. It locks with a locking screw and unlocks with an Allen key wrench(included) . . A padlock also works. Liners which fit into the bait compartment are available to make cleaning and rebaiting easier. I know there is an answer out there somewhere. I am pleased that most of the members are the active people whom appear to be the focus of passionate discussion. We all al coming together to find a way of having the discussion list be a more "welcoming" place to have different views expressed in a civil manner. It would be nice to have this be an area where new residents can become involved if they cannot come to the meetings. A place where people are empowered to control their intake into their homes through the computer and e-mail, and yet not be disturbed by unwanted mail, or large amounts of mail. I hope that we can come up with a comprehensive renovation that will not just address a single issue but multiple issues that people have expressed concern over. Several of us have reviewed the threads that have caused concern and plan on addressing each very different kind of problem. This is not a single issue discussion, because of the diverse personalities that are on the committee I think we can come up with something. For those of you who returned cards thank you. You can e-mail suggestions to whatevercomments at cox.net I will bring them up at the meeting tomorrow, let me know if you want to be identified or not. You can also make your comments on the discussion list and they will be brought up. As a committee member I will take comments from anyone, anywhere, you do not have to be active on the list, or a member of GCNA to express information about this list to me. If you choose to use different size font and or color, please make them a private e-mail. A big group met after the general meeting and had a very good discussion I took a picture: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ --Note-- By replying to this email, you will be sending to the entire list. Vice Mayor Doug Lingner has a blog, and a web site. The blog is interesting as he speaks e-mail lingo, and is even less formal that in meetings. There is opportunity to respond to his comments, I think this is great. I noticed that no one has been responding. What an opportunity for the Coronado residents to have a little impact, now that we are brushing up on out e-mail skills (I prefer skill rather than manner). I think that he recognizes that some people prefer to write and attend the community in this way rather than meetings. When we get out Discussion list remodeled, I will suggest a link to his site, and reverse. I think the committee is going to take the discussion list to a new level of "effective" communication with a broader reach. Especially those in Coronado. I have been impressed with the suggestion so far that have come in so far, and look forward to putting structure to it. There was an article in the Republic (yesterday or today, I'm not sure which paper I was reading this morning) about roof rats being a major problem again this year in the Arcadia neighborhood and in surrounding neighborhoods of north and central Phoenix. There is some information about roof rats, how to identify them and how to get rid of them (and how to prevent them, for others on the list) at this website... http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/info/rodents/rats.htm The website is actually pretty helpful on it's own for any kind of household pest, so really everyone can benefit from it. Someone told me to leave out little dishes of catnip in cabinets and places where they seemed to go more often. It seemed to work pretty well. Then again, around the same time we also started using the Combat brand paste and traps and they work extremely well. Anyhow, the catnip did seem to get the roaches out from the cabinets. So I guess these 'home remedy' type things really work sometimes. Sprinkle it in holes where you know the rodents to be, and across threshholds that you know won't be used by pets. You can make a spray with water and cayenne pepper powder and spray plants and garden areas. Rodents hate chile peppers and the sting of the taste and smell. It's a great alternative for prevention. --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! It shouldn't matter who pays for the advertising, as long as there are plenty of in-state supporters! That's something that really bugs me about the people against Prop 204 (Yes for Humane Farms), they use the excues that it is primarly funded by out of state animal rights groups.. but they completely fail to mention that it is completely backed by several in-state animal rights and animal welfare groups. They also try to use the excuse that the proposition is entirely anti-farm and anti-meat, when really all it is trying to do is put a limit on the amount of physical and emotional abuse that the animals have to live with. And you gotta see it - it really is unforgettable. Perhaps the best looking Tudor-bungalow in Coronado. The raised garden bed and English-style gravel pathway has its own fountain. The driveway post lights are a sight to see at night; as well as the crystal chandeliers inside the house.? It's more environmentally friendly, has low heat radiation, and even filters pollutants that could contaminate groundwater.? Well, you'll just have to come see the house on Friday along with the artwork. The combination is going to be just fantastic! I attached a small copy of the opening reception postcard. Aaron ?
