A _______________________________________________ Hi Andrea, I am not currently on the Coronado discuss-line, so I am sending you a little info that probably should be passed around the neighborhood. We have found a confirmed Roof Rat, dead, a couple of houses north of Oak and 9th Streets. The County recommends neighbors check out details on the website originally set up by the Arcadia folks (back then): roofrat.net Roof Rats like to feed on citrus, but enjoy living in oleanders (especially those not regularly attended) and can easily scramble their way into attics where they go unnoticed until too much damage has occurred. It is recommended to protect our homes by using metal (not plastic) screening at exterior attic vents, and be attentive to their burrowing love in blown insulation areas. They are dark, quite big (compared to the varying mice around), have LONG tails, and are quick to destroy their environments. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The Virginia Park renovation is plowing along. Looks like they will be finished at some point in late July, early August, if everything goes according to plan. The bad news. The Coronado Park renovation has been stalled as a result of the City's budget woes. Seems funding for the park improvements has been moved to the back of the list (the improvements are considered non-essential, so other projects trumped Coronado Park). Best guess as to breaking ground on the project is three years from now, but hopefully the time line will move up if revenues increase. Oh well, at least the pool is open. We had roof rats for awhile over the last year. 9th St and Virginia. Our old drains were leaking in the crawlspace under our house and they were living under there and coming up through the walls into the kitchen. I used poison bait and then had to crawl in the crawlspace to get rid of the three dead ones that were down there. We've since had our pipes and drains replaced and covered every opeing with wire mesh and haven't had a problem since. No citrus on our or our neighbor's property, but there are oleanders. I would like to add that feeding the stray cats outdoors attracts these animals. Also free feeding of your outdoor dogs can also attract them. It makes sense not to put the food outside if you do not want these critters coming by. They love crawl spaces??I have helped several people rid their homes of these pests over the years??it is not a easy task once they have set up housekeeping?? I was told that there is a rumor that someone connected with this remodel is considering painting over the mural I did on the west facing block wall. I also heard that there is an organization that prohibits property owners from painting over murals in historic neighborhoods. Anyone with any information about that organization, please send it to me. I want to paint in the blank sections of that wall and give it more of a "Welcome to Coronado" theme. If anyone is with me on this, can we do something to convince whoever it is that painting over the mural is a really bad idea. The office director of the school who called me gave me some numbers in the Sikh community who owns the property. They also agree that it should not be painted out, but they need to investigate it further. We must preserve our Coronado art!
